The grim plight of Mombasa street kids

Today is International Day against Child Labour. Over in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa, there are a growing number of students dropping out of school who end up working in the largest market in east Africa: the Kongowea Market.

Market officials believe about 30 percent of those working there are under-aged children.

According to the Kenyan constitution, the legal working age is 18. Local authorities are increasingly urging that action be taken to rescue these children.
