Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s signature drive to protect cows has come home with a vengance during the ongoing national election.

The rising population of wandering cattle trampling crops has angered many of India’s 263 million farmers.

Leather exporters have locked horns with the authorities over restrictions on the livestock trade and the dairy industry has gone sour.
