A degraded wetlands at a former golf course near Dakar was recently granted protected status as an urban nature reserve where more than 230 bird species stop by every year. Emmanuelle Landais

World migratory bird day lands on 11 May. It will be an occasion to highlight  thousands of species which migrate around the world, stopping in some of the most beautiful natural wetlands. Sometimes also in the most polluted ones.
