On Wednesday the European Naval Force, Navfor, said the Greek-owned bulk carrier is now anchored in the vicinity of Garacad, Somalia.

According to Navfor, the freighter was en route to Kandla in India with a crew of 25, mainly Filipinos, when it was hijacked 250 nautical miles off the coast of Oman last Wednesday.

Last week the Greek coastguard said the 72,000-tonne bulk carrier Eleni P was sailing from Ukraine to China with a cargo of iron ore at the time of the incident.

The Greek owners of the freighter earlier said there were 23 people on board.

Somali pirates have raked in millions of dollars in ransom money through hijackings in the Gulf of Aden.

Over 400 seafarers are currently being held hostage, the highest number since a surge in Somali piracy in 2007.
