A representative of the US embassy attended the religious ceremony after one of the victims was identified as a former staff member.

"These bodies were discovered in the last few days, thanks to the testimonies of people who had remained silent until now," said Emmanuel Rutubuka, an official from the Nyamirambo district in Kigali.

"Thanks to the progress of the reconciliation process, they finally indicated the places where the bodies had been dumped."

According to The New Times daily newspaper, the victims had been dumped in toilets.

The genocide, which lasted from April to July 1994, is thought to have claimed 800,000 lives.Β

On Friday, a Finnish court found a Rwandan man guilty of taking part and handed him a life sentence in prison.

The court ruled that Francois Bazaramba, a 59-year-old Baptist pastor, had shown "intent to destroy in whole or in part the Rwandan Tutsis as a group."

Bazaramba, who moved to Finland in 2003 and has sought asylum in the country, denied the charges.
