Nigerian police fear Boko Haram now operating in Kano city

Issued on:

Police in Nigeria have arrested 14 suspected members of an Islamist sect in the northern city of Kano. The arrests took place after a shootout in a house where officers found petrol, gas canisters, assault rifles and shotguns. Boko Haram has been blamed for shootings and bombings in the North of the country. But the group, which wants to ban western education, is now making its presence felt in the city of Kano. And this, according to Okey Ndibe, a Nigerian commentator who spoke to RFI, is cause for concern.
