Bamako Encounters photography festival 2011

Issued on:

Africa's biggest photo exhibition has once again drawn to a close. Over the past two months, the festival, called Bamako Encounters has showcased some of the best work from Africa and around the world. This year, the South African photographer Pieter Hugo won the top prize, the Seydou Keita Award, for his work documenting Ghana’s largest electronic-waste dumps. Other photographers tackled some of the big developments of 2011, such as the upheavals across North Africa. Laura Serani, co-Artistic Director of Bamako Encounters, speaks about the success of this festival.
