RFI's English website gets a makeover

Regular visitors to RFI’s website in English may have noticed some changes on our homepage. These reflect a change in editorial policy, which we hope will mean a better site leading with RFI’s strengths.

Our ever-popular press reviews now have their own slot on the homepage, while the columns devoted to French and African news have disappeared.

This means not less French news but more. We have decided to concentrate the site’s efforts on news about France and French-speaking countries, while also covering international stories with a French angle.

We believe these are the fields in which Radio France Internationale has most to offer English-speakers, an opinion borne out by the number of hits such articles attract.

But there will be other news, comment and analysis.

The column From our reporters will carry reports by RFI’s journalists in Paris and our correspondents abroad. That will mean RFI exclusives or our own angle on French and international news.

The Analysis column will feature explanation of developments in France and elsewhere - anywhere in the world that a member of our staff or someone we have interviewed feels qualified to discuss. Your comments and questions on these articles are particularly welcome (they may not appear at once because of our monitoring system).

Some things never change – Life and Arts, for example, which will continue to bring you reports and comments on culture in its broadest sense, ranging from photography to football, from wine to world music.

All our audio features remain untouched, too. So you will still be able to listen to RFI live at Listen to RFI and download our podcasts at Short features.

We will continue to put together dossiers to give you background, analysis, maps, charts and news on subjects we feel we can cover well.

Take a look at Paul Myers’ reports from the Africa Cup of Nations, which has pride of place at the moment, and get ready for very thorough, in-depth coverage of France’s long-awaited presidential race in April and May – the candidates, the parties, the issues, the scandals, the gaffes … all will be made clear on http://www.english.rfi.fr/.

Of course, we remain in Twitter, Google+ and Facebook. If you haven't liked us on social media yet, why not do so now? Let us have your comments there, too, and tell your friends about RFI.
