Issued on:

Guinea Bissau's the military has accepted the former president of East Timor, Jose Ramos-Horta, as a mediator to help resolve the crisis in the country, following last week's military coup, reports say. The 12 April coup has been unanimously condemned but ex-prime minister Carlos Gomes Junior still remains in the custody of the army.  Paulo Gorjao, a leading Bissau analyst, says that this latest coup is unlikely to succeed.
