Slum clearance leaves families living in canoes on Lagos lagoon

Issued on:

Thousands of people have been made homeless after Nigerian authorities commenced the demolition of a slum built on the Lagos lagoon. Now many are sleeping in dugout canoes in the lagoon. The slum dwellers, many of whom have spent their entire life living in wooden houses built on stilts, say they have no option than to start living inside their canoes because they have no place to go.
