Journalist Martin Schibbye released from Ethiopian jail

Issued on:

After spending more than a year in an Ethiopian jail, two Swedish journalists were released last week. Reporter Martin Schibbye and photographer Johan Persson were arrested in July 2011, after entering the country with fighters from the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF).  They were heading to Ogaden Province to investigate the involvement of the Swedish oil company, Lundin Petroleum, in a decades-old conflict, when they were arrested. They were each sentenced to 11 years in prison for entering the country illegally and violating anti-terrorist laws. RFI spoke to one of the journalists, Martin Schibbye, about their ordeal.
