Ghana's education minister trashes opposition education promises

Campaigning for Ghana’s presidential elections finished on Wednesday. One of the hot topics of the campaign has been the opposition New Patriotic Party’s pledge to provide free senior high school education. The NPP’s presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo promises to use revenues from Ghana’s recently discovered oil to that end. But Ghana’s Education Minister Lee Ocran, from the ruling National Democratic Congress, says the priority should be building new schools, not providing free school dinners for pupils.
