Malawi ex-ministers arrested over alleged coup attempt

Police in Malawi have arrested 11 former ministers and senior officials in connection with an alleged coup plot. Among those arrested is Peter Mutharika, the brother of the late leader, and current Economic Planning Minister Goodall Gondwe. Those arrested were named in a recent commission of inquiry report into the death last year of former president Bingu wa Mutharika. They allegedly tried to prevent Joyce Banda from become president. Nathan Chiema, a political analyst, says the arrests are in keeping with the rule of law.
