François Hollande urged to raise human rights issues on Morocco visit

Issued on:

French President Francois Hollande is in Morocco for meetings with King Mohamed VI. Morocco is France's main trading partner in North Africa and Hollande enjoys a good relationship with the king, who was the first head of state to visit Paris after Hollande was elected French president in May. Human Rights Watch has urged Hollande to raise "persistent" rights abuses, while Reporters Without Borders called on him to discuss press freedom. A Moroccan editor, Aboubakr Jamaï, who lives in self-imposed exile in Spain, believes that the two leaders will focus on other issues.
