Mouride brotherhood celebrates Eid in Touba, Senegal

Issued on:

The Eid feast is one of the biggest occasions for Muslims in Senegal, who make up 95 percent of the population. It is a celebration of not just the end of a month-long fasting period, but also an event for extravagant spending on new clothes and food. One of the places where Eid is celebrated most lavishly is Touba, Senegal's second largest city and home of the Mouride brotherhood. Correspondent Sheriff Bojang traveled to the holy city to find out how followers of the country's most powerful religious sect are preparing for the Eid festival.
