In Uganda, the main opposition party has told RFI that it will launch a campaign of defiance against a controversial new public order bill. The Public Order Management bill, passed a few days ago, limits public gatherings, giving the police the power to veto meetings of as few as three people discussing political issues. International rights group Amnesty International has said the bill is part of a pattern of repression. Opposition leader Kizza Besigye, from the Forum for Democratic Change party, has been arrested numerous times in recent years for organising street protests. RFI spoke to Alaso Alice Asianut, a leading member of Besigye's party, to find out more about their opposition to the new law.
