Scientists discover promising vaccine against malaria

Issued on:

New research published in the journal Science shows researchers at the US company Sanaria have managed to vaccinate a small group of people against malaria. This is the first time all patients in a panel have been successfully immunised against the disease, which kills an estimated 600,000 people each year, mostly in Africa. Although other scientists have warned that it is too early to say whether the Sanaria trial will lead to large-scale immunisation campaigns, Stephen Hoffman - the head of the company - told RFI a vaccine may be developed within five years.
