Real life in there of Africa's poorest countries

Real life in there of Africa's poorest countries

Cover of The Ringtone and the Drum by Mark Weston DR

In the Western media images of Africa have been characterised by famine and conflict, while the discussion of poverty in African countries often overlooks the realities of everyday life. A recently published book, The Ringtone and the Drum, sets out to change that. The author Mark Weston presents the fast-changing politics and culture of Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau and Burkina Faso - three of the world's poorest countries and the least visited.
