Ethiopia was the first country in Africa to have a railway. It was French-built and connected the capital, Addis Ababa, to the Red Sea port of Djibouti. However, the old diesel rail line is now being replaced by a Chinese-built electrified railway; a major plan that seeks to help transport the country’s commercial exports to its neighbours.
