The Islamic insurgency in north east Nigeria is being felt hardest in rural areas where whole villages are being razed. The Sambisa Forest in Borno State is a known hideout of the insurgents. Over 200 girls were taken there after being abducted from their school by Boko Haram fighters in April. Thousands of villagers from in and around the Sambisa Forest have fled to neighbouring Adamawa state, or crossed the border into Cameroon. With help from their church, around forty families displaced by fighting in Borno state's Gwoza region, recently arrived hundreds of kilometers south to start a new life on a farm outside the capital.
