Aurore Gros-Coissy, 27, was arrested on August 2011 after 1,680 tablets of Subutex, a heroin substitute, were found in her luggage at the airport of the capital Port-Louis.

Subutex is a prescription drug in France but is considered a hard drug and illegal in Mauritius.

The other person accused is Mauritian Giantee Ramchurn, the mother of Gros-Coissy’s Franco-Mauritian former boyfriend, known as Tinsley C for legal reasons.

Gros-Coissy accuses Tinsley C of placing the tablets in her luggage, hiding them in a biscuit box that he pretended to be a gift for his mother.

According to her, Tinsley C had invited her to go on holiday in Mauritius but cancelled his trip at the last minute and left Gros-Coissy to travel on her own.

Ramchurn was hospitalised on Wednesday due to an asthma and panic attack.

Her lawyers said she will leave hospital on Monday.

The hearing, which will resume on Wednesday, is planned to laast two days.

Gros-Coissy is facing 60 years in prison.

Two French citizens convicted of drug trafficking were transferred on Thursday evening from Mauritius to France to serve the rest of their prison sentences there.

Five other French citizens, four of whom are sentenced to 15-20 years' jail, are currently in prison for supposed Subutex traffic.
