Bujumbura tense after Burundi coup plotters' arrest

media Roadblocks in Bujumbura, Burundi, 15 May 2015. RFI/Dan Finnan

Burundi’s capital Bujumbura remains tense on Friday after the authorities arrested a group of coup plotters.

Traffic flowed freely, some people walked through the streets, although shops remained closed.

In the neighbourhood of Musaga, one of the focal points of protests against President Pierre Nkurunziza, local residents reinforced roadblocks while the police fired to disperse them.

In the downtown area, vehicles carrying supporters of the ruling CNDD-FDD party drove around Independence Square.
