Hidden Cairo, part 5/5

Issued on:

Cairo's creative scene is having to learn to adapt to a new environment. Artists, musicians, theatre directors, cinema owners and programmers of creative spaces of all kinds are dealing with their own kinds of censorship, and potential self-censorship, for fear of running aground of the wave of nationalism and political crackdowns that have dominated Egypt since Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi came to power in June 2013. Ruth Michaelson looks at how artists are carving out spaces for free expression.
