African press review 25 March 2016

media DR

Nigeria's Mohammadu Buhari "Baba-go-slow" is under attack for poor run on results, there has been several arrest at Kenya's examinations board.

South Africa Times

We begin with reflections on lessons to be learned from Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Brussels.

In an article titled "how radicalization happens and who is at risk" South Africa's Times Live argues that while the actions of the shooters are difficult to comprehend, radicalisation is a process during which an individual or group adopts increasingly extreme political, social or religious ideals and aspirations.

The process involves rejecting or undermining the status quo or contemporary ideas and expressions of freedom of choice, the paper writes.

Hence the Times' conviction that newly radicalised people don’t just agree with the mission and the message of the group they are joining, they embrace the idea of using violence to induce change.

Premium Times, Nigeria

In Nigeria Premium Times leads with President Buhari's response to growing criticisms of his administration’s performance.

Addressing leaders of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja, the president acknowledged his government was facing increasing attacks 10 months after taking office.

“I know you are being harassed since the election and that they haven’t seen anything on the ground,” the president said at the APC’s National Executive Committee meeting.

“Well, if you have any explanation that could be accepted, it should be that you have three more years to go”, Buhari is quoted as saying.

Standard Digital, Kenya

In Kenya, Standard Digital takes up the spectacular police raid at Kenya's examinations board offices and arrest officials over exam irregularities. This was just hours after the examination board was dissolved over increase in cases of cheating in last year’s KCPE and KCSE exams that led to 7,700 results being cancelled.
