This week’s Spotlight on Africa focuses on a new project launched in Tanzania and Uganda which hopes to boost agricultural trade in east Africa using certified warehouses and a special app. The newly crowned Miss Africa also talks about her hopes for the continent after winning the inaugural pageant in Johannesburg.

Increased trade in grain could help Kenya plug a deficit and Uganda and Tanzania sell a surplus

"G-Soko is an initiative of the East African Grain Council to help farmers access markets and link other stakeholders working on grain in terms of facilitating trade within the region. G-Soko is an electronic system comprising of a network of automated grain bulking aggregation centres. These certified warehouses are linked to a virtual trading platform including banks for settling and clearing - and trading houses, grain buyers and millers."
