Senegalese migrant returns home, disappointed with Europe

With the warmer weather and calmer seas, more asylum seekers are willing putting their lives at risk while attempting to cross the Mediterranean by boat. The vast majority of new migrant arrivals from sub-Saharan and West Africa are trying to escape poverty, unemployment and food insecurity. The European dream remains inaccessible for most and for those that make it, life is not what they expected. Between January to May of this year, more than 2,500 Senegalese made it to detention centres in Italy, but for thousands of others the journey stops in Libya. While others choose to go back home. Emmanuelle Landais met Mantany Dieye, a Senegalese migrant who recently returned to Dakar.
