Lagos to enforce ban on street trading

Issued on:

Lagos, in Nigeria, is a city with some of the worst traffic congestion in Africa. But the bad traffic is also a thriving business for street traders who move between cars to sell a wide range of items to motorists. Following the death of a street hawker who was run down by a truck, the government says it will now enforce a law against street traders and the motorists who buy things from them. This includes a possible prison sentence of up to six months. Is this the end of street trading in Lagos? Sam Olukoya has this report.
