Uganda: Encouraging disabled young people to take part in sports

Issued on:

In the buildup to the Paralympic games in September, the Ugandan Paralympic committee is trying to raise awareness of the importance of sports for the disabled, beginning in schools. Last week, a cricket tournament for blind and visually impaired schoolchildren took place in Kampala, as part of an initiative to encourage more disabled young people to take part in sports. RFI’s Grainne Harrington was there.

At the MTN sports centre in Kampala, three teams of schoolchildren played a cricket tournament. Their preparation went far beyond the physical, as all of these players were either partially or completely blind.
