Scientists in Senegal have reduced the time it takes for Baobab trees to produce their monkey-bread fruit down from about eight years to just five. The fruit that’s long been a favourite across Senegal is becoming a useful export to the West. Monkey-bread, or bouie, as it’s known here in Senegal, is packed with nutritional goodness. It’s got three times more vitamin C than an orange. So it’s not surprising that its popularity is growing beyond the continent. Correspondent Emmanuelle Landais reports from Dakar.
