On his first visit to the West Bank, US President Barack Obama met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah. Obama’s visit has been criticised by a vocal section of the Palestinian population who accuse him of taking sides with Israel. Protesters on his arrival in Ramallah held placards with his image defaced. But the demonstration was small, leading to questions about whether the Palestinians have any faith left in the US’s ability to help the peace process with Israel.
