Inter Parliamentary Union meets in Ecuador

Issued on:

The twice-yearly assembly of one of the world's oldest global political organisations ends Wednesday in Quito, Ecuador. The 128th session of the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) brought together representatives of 162 national parliaments. The IPU was established in 1889, by Frenchman Frederic Passy and Briton William Randall Cremer. It formed the first permanent platform for multilateral negotiations. Anders Johnsson, the IPU's general secretary, talks about the challenges the organisation faces in trying to help parliamentarians from all backgrounds communicate together.
