Brazilian Amazon deforestation on the rise

A new study published in the journal Environmental Research Letters reveals that 30 per cent of the carbon associated with deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon between 2000 and 2010 was effectively exported in the form of beef products and soybeans. The study was released just as Brazil's government reported that deforestation has increased for the first time in five years. Jonas Karstensen, the scientist who lead the report's research team, explains.
