French hit film Amélie headed for Broadway

media Audrey Tautou fronts for Amélie on the film's poster DR

The 2001 French hit film Amélie is to be made into a Broadway musical. After leaks in the trade press, US composer Dan Messe says he will make a musical from the movie that catapulted actress Audrey Tautou to stardom.

"So not the best kept secret, but still I'm happy to announce that I've been commissioned to adapt the film Amélie for Broadway," Messé wrote on his band Hem's Facebook page last week.

He will collaborate with playwright Craig Lucas and composer Nathan Tysen on the adaptation, according to the post.

Messé first wrote a song, Half Asleep, for two of the film's characters in 2007 for Hem's EP Home Again, Home Again but that "it took years and years to get the rights", he told the Paste website.

Cannes 2013

Amélie, known in France as Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, tells the story of a shy waitress in Paris's historic Montmartre district who sets out on a mission to male others happy.

It sold 8.6 million tickets in France and went onto be an international success, earning 114 million euros worldwide.

Amélie won four Césars, the French cinema industry prize, and was nominated for five Oscars, although it failed to win any awards in LA.

Sorry but the period of time connection to the operation is exceeded.
