Donald Trump's anti-Muslim campaign, an Egyptian view

Issued on:

January 25th marks five years since Egypt held its revolution that overthrew long time president, Hosni Mubarak. After elections were held, the Muslim Brotherhood, branded now a terrorist organisation by the current government, came into power, and quickly transformed the political and social landscape of the country. A second revolution took place to oust the Brotherhood. Since then, President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi has been in power. Our correspondent Mohamed Abdelfattah was one of the first journalists reporting from the revolution five years ago. He followed it throughout, until just recently, decided to leave Egypt for the United States, just when the anti-immigration rhetoric is at an all-time high by Republicans presented by Donald Trump.
