The town of Ayacucho in Peru is at the forefront of seeking redress for forced disappearances, summary executions and abuse carried out during the civil war between the government and the Shining Path Guerilla in the 1980s.

Photographer Angela Ponce Romero tells the story of the townsfolk’s quest, and shows some of them reunited with the remains of their loved ones.

She told RFI’s Rosslyn Hyams that she plans to continue to try to help the victims obtain justice.
