But Nagorny Karabakh's Defence Ministry says that no Armenian soldiers died.

Only one Armenian army soldier was injured and at least two Azerbaijanis were killed,  the  ministry spokesperson Sero Hasratyan told RFI.

Both sides are accusing each other of attacking the positions near the village of Chaily in the Terter region of Azerbaijan on Tuesday afternoon.

Tensions over Karabakh have risen in region in recent months amid stalled negotiations over the status of the region, which is currently under Armenian control but is claimed by Azerbaijan.

Shots were exchanged on 27 August with no injuries.

Armenian and Azerbaijani forces are spread along a ceasefire line in and around Nagorny Karabakh, often facing each other at close range and shootings are common.
