The pilots took action after Biman airlines suspended four of their colleagues.

The ariline accused the suspended men of being the ringleaders in a protest against plans to raise the retirement age of pilots from 57 to 62 and cut their benefits.

“Our members will not operate any scheduled flights unless the decision is revoked,” said the acting head of the Bangladesh Airlines Pilots Association Zakir Hussain.

It’s thought that 100 of the 117 pilots have joined the strike of the national carrier which operates an average of 15 flights a day on 18 international and three domestic routes.

Biman’s chief executive Zakiul Islam said Biman aircraft had managed to fly to international destinations despite the “unlawful actions” by the pilots.
