Mob attacks churches in Central Java
A Muslim mob burned two churches and attacked policemen in Central Java on Wednesday after a man convicted of blaspheming against Islam was given a jail term. The rioters demanded the death penalty for defendant Antonius Bawengan, 58.

The 1,500 protesters chanted "kill, kill" outside the courtroom. Bawengan was given the maximum sentence for distributing leaflets insulting Islam.
The group then attacked police with stones and set two churches alight. The police responded with tear gas and fired warning shots in the air.
The incident occured just two days after a Muslim lynch mob killed three members of a minority Muslim sect.
