China's president makes first foreign trip to Russia and Africa

Issued on:

Xi Jingping will arrive in Tanzania today on the second leg of his first foreign trip as China's president. Analysts expect Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete to push for more timber, mineral and natural gas deals. The Chinese premier will then attend a two-day BRICS summit on Tuesday in South Africa alongside the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa. RFI asked Michael Dillon, a China observer, about the often thorny relationship between China and Russia, and what China can expect from the BRICS summit.
