Korean-American sentenced to 15 years' hard labour

Issued on:

North Korea yesterday has sentenced a Korean-American tour operator to 15 years' hard labour for "hostile acts". Pae Jun-Ho, known in the US as Kenneth Bae, was arrested in November as he entered the north-eastern port city of Rason. The United States had urged North Korea to free him on humanitarian grounds, pointing out that he entered the country on a valid visa. Why have Korean-Americans like Pae found themselves jailed in North Korea?
