Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi denounces two-child-limit for Rohingya couples

Issued on:

Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the National Democracy League in Myanmar, has spoken out against a policy imposed by the government of Rakhine State. The politician and Nobel Peace Prizewinner described the two-child limit on the Rohingya people as discrimination. The government considers the 800,000 Rohingya people as non-Myanmarese, and denies them full citizenship rights. Last year, inter-ethnic violence in Myanmar left about 200 people dead and Rohinga-inhabited villages were torched. RFI spoke to Tun Khin, head of the Burmese Rohingya Organisation in London.
