Three top Bordeaux châteaux bought by Hong Kong businessman

Three prestigious Bordeaux vineyards have been bought by a Hong Kong company, the latest in a number of châteaux bought by Chinese winelovers or companies. Pan Sutong’s Goldin Financial Holdings already owns the cult Napa Valley winery, Sloan Estate, as well as several Bordeaux estates.

The three Bordeaux châteaux are Bon Pasteur in Pomerol, Rolland-Mallet in Saint Emilion and Saint-Vincent in Lalande de Pomerol and all belonged to the family of internationally renowned oenologist Michel Rolland.

Rolland, who received unfriendly treatment from film-maker Jonathan Nossiter in his hit Mondovino, advises 300 vineyards worldwide.

Rolland’s wife, Dany, who was co-owner of the châteaux, refused to give details of the price, although in December Goldin said it was ready to spend up to 15 million euros on a forthcoming winery sale, without naming the estates.

The present production team will remain to ensure continuity, both sides involved in the sale say.

Several dozen Bordeaux châteaux have been bought by Chinese investors in the last few years and a Chinese winelover bought the most expensive bottle in this week's auction of wine from the French president's cellar.
