IPU investigates attempted assassination of Sri Lanka Tamil MP

A special Inter Parliamentary Union mission examining the attempted assassination of a Sri Lankan MP returned to Geneva yesterday. Sivagnanam Shritharan, an MP from the Tamil National Alliance, was attacked in 2011. An investigation is also underway into the murders of two other Tamil parliamentarians in 2005 and 2006. Sri Lanka is still recovering from a civil war which ended in 2009 with the defeat of the Tamil Tigers who had fought over 26 years for an independend state. Rogier Huizinga, one of the members of the IPU delegation speaks about the position of Tamil politicians in post-war Sri Lanka.
