Pyong Yang and Seoul agree to re open Kaesong industrial park

Issued on:

North and South Korea agreed yesterday to reopen the Kaesong industrial park on a trial basis, starting next Monday. Kaesong will be open to foreign investors as part of the deal to reopen the complex. The park, which has a 50-thousand strong workforce, was shut down five months ago amid heightened military tensions between the two nations. Kaesong lies just over the border in the North but is funded by the South. RFI spoke to Korea expert Aiden Foster-Carter of Leeds University in Britain on the implications of Kaesong's reopening.
