Pakistan's former president Pervez Musharraf, currently under house arrest, claims the Pakistani authorities are pursuing a vendetta with the treason case against him. Musharraf became the military ruler of Pakistan after ousting current premier Nawaz Sharif in a coup in 1999. The treason case relates to the state of emergency he declared in 2007. If he is found guilty, Musharraf could be executed or sentenced to life in prison. He also faces charges of murder and other criminal allegations. Last week his international defence team called on the United Nations to intervene, claiming the trial cannot be fair. Toby Cadman, one of the defence team, talked to RFI.
