Heavy rain drenched the north of New Caledonia, which had already suffered 48 hours of storms thanks to another depression, causing flooding and damage to roads.

A 23-year-old man was found in a flooded river he had tried to cross in KonΓ© in the north and the six-year-old boy was swept away when his family car was among four that were carried off by the river Boghen on Tuesday evening.

An earlier report of two other missing people proved to be unfounded.
