Malaysian sentenced to death for murder of French tourist
A Malaysian court on Wednesday imposed the death penalty on a shopkeeper found guilty of murdering a French tourist on a popular resort island. Stephanie Foray, a 30-year old French civil service employee, was reported missing on Tioman Island off the east coast state of Pahang in May 2011.

Her partially mummified remains were found some three months later buried in a cave on an island.
A high court in Pahang’s capital Kuantan sentenced Asni Omar, 39, to death after finding his defence had failed to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt.
Asni ran a shop selling bear gear on the island.
The verdict comes just weeks after British backpacker and volunteer Gareth Huntley went missing on the same island during a trek to a jungle waterfall and was found dead one week later.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of his death.
Murder in Malaysia carries a mandatory death penalty by hanging, but Asni can appeal the sentence.
