France invites Indian PM Modi to Paris in springtime

France has invited India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Paris in the coming months. The two countries will discuss a strategic partnership, including nuclear energy and aviation technology. 

"We will be extremly happy to welcome Mr Modi," said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius during a visit to New Delhi on Thursday.

The Indian premier had been invited to a summit with President François Hollande "in the spring". 

This is the first firm invitation to visit Europe for Modi since his election in May, although there have been reports that he may go to Britain and Germany.

But, since his election as India's prime minister, the boycott had ended.

France and India have a strategic partnership and Fabius said that nuclear enercy and aviation technology would be among the subjects to be discussed.

  "This will be an extremely important visit for us and India," he said.
