India's Love Commandos protect runaway couples

Issued on:

With the aim of providing shelter to young couples who face threats from their families because they've chosen to defy barriers of caste and religion for the sake of love, a New Delhi-based voluntary vigilante organisation called Love Commandos is gaining in popularity. Their work is dangerous as they rescue young people and even organise weddings at the risk of violence. In a short spell of just four years, the group claims to have united more than 30,000 couples. RFI met up with the organisers of this outfit and some of the couples who are now seeking shelter after having run away from their homes.
