Elderly in India part 3/4

Issued on:

Over half of India’s 1.2 billion plus population is younger than 25 and two-thirds is below the age of 35. But the number of seniors is also growing. By 2016, around 113 million people will be older than 60, and if recent reports are any indication, a sizeable number of them will require an old-age home. That is because neglect and abuse at the hands of their children is growing across the country and many are turning to homes for relief. Our correspondent Murali Krishnan has this third report in a four part series on the elderly in India.
